"Wait until next year"

This was part of the advice given to me by a Harvard MBA whom I really respect and admire. He advised me to postpone applying for a year in order to make a greater case for myself for a top 5 school. He seemed very assured that if I applied to school in 07 (and spend the next year making my apps stronger) I could probably get into any school I wanted. Of course, this is just one person's opinion--but it did make me think.

Personally I feel that I'm ready to apply and that I'm ready for school, though I do see how much better I could potentially prepare in a year if I were to apply in 07. Right now, I've only planned to apply to one top 5 school. I suppose I'll assess how I feel when I'm nearing the end of the application process this fall...and when I see what schools I'm admitted to.

Forget next year! For all you know you might make it into top 5 this year. You never know till you try...

only you can know whether you're ready for it.. if you feel you are, then definitely go for it. like cornfed said, you can always reapply, the worst thing being you lose $1000 and some time. the time is probably not even lost, since introspection is always useful..

Even i was told this w-u-n-y but i thought of Cornfed's re application philosophy. Go for it you can always re apply.

If you feel you are ready with it, then go for it. But plz do rethink abt the "you can always reapply" path. I am a reapplicant, and I soooooo wish I hadnt applied to some of the schools, esp the ones I love so much, because some of my stories have changed, become better. I feel my last yrs app was crap. But I cant undo that now, can I? So I will have to explain the changes in the optional essay. Ofcourse part reason for this was I wasnt clear on a few things, hence the changes. But still, that doesnt change anything.

Apping once definitely makes u much smarter in the game. But do think abt what your alum contact said. If he knows you well enough, he must've had some basis for saying it. BOL! :)
